National Service Scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary year 1969 in 37 Universities with 40,000 students. Today NSS has more than 3.2 million students’ volunteers.

The main aim of NSS is to identify the needs and problems of the people and involve them in problem solving process. It enables the students to acquire leadership skill and develop the attitude of helping the common people.

“Not me but you” is the motto with which NSS volunteers serve people. Our School has a group of energetic and service oriented volunteers to promote the aim of NSS.

The overall activities of the school NSS unit is constantly guided, motivated and encouraged by our Principal Rev. Fr. Johny Koyikkara. We thank whole heartedly for his support for an effective conduct of NSS programmes.

For the Academic year 2017-2018 the National Service Scheme was inaugurated by Mr. Arun (HOD-English, M.C.C.). Our NSS volunteers are guided by Mr. S. Emmanuvel, assisted by Mrs. Catherine, who effectively organizes every activity of the NSS unit in our school.

Our NSS volunteers have attended the First Aid training programme in our school campus conducted by Mr. Karthikeyan from JRC. They took part in Fire safety and disaster management programme given by Mr. Palanivel from JRC. Mrs. Catherine, NSS sub co-ordinator took part in ‘Pallikalvi Association’ meeting held on 20.06.2017 at Anna University. It was decided at the meeting to present the NSS students with ‘Global certificate’ signed by the Prime Minister and Chief Minister.

The NSS volunteers of our school have attended a special camp at St. Vincent School, Molassur, Sunguvarchatram from 23.09.2017 – 29.09.2017. The camp was organized by NSS programme officer Mr. Emmanuvel, Assistant co-ordinator Mrs. Catherine and Mr. Carmel. The students have cleaned the surroundings of our school, planted saplings in the locality and organized awareness rally emphasizing the concept “Save Trees” and “Save Humanity”.

To make them aware of the social problems and to develop their problem solving skills many informative seminars were organized. Mr. Kumar & Mr. Sijo Davis enlightened them about life skills and development. The advantages and disadvantages of the social media was explained to them by Ms. Mabile Havillah and Ms. Shalini, MMM Hospital counselors.

The training session on first and natural advantages in our human body was conducted by Mr. Nasrath. The Secretary of disaster management, Mr. Lawrence made the students aware about ways of overcoming disaster protest people. The NSS special camp assisted the students in their overall development.

The NSS volunteers used to regulate the Road Traffic around our school on Tuesday’s and arrange the cycles in our school camp every day.

We thank our Principal Rev. Fr. Johny Koyikkara C.M., for his constant support and guidance in all our endeavors. We thank all the teachers of NSS unit for their active participation in all the activities by the grace of The Almighty. The NSS unit of St. Vincent’s school produces a number of service minded volunteers who extend their timely help to the different segment of people in the society.
